We are visiting Italy this October and will be driving between Florence and Rome. We will be venturing south to Rome from Montalcino to drop off the car at the Fiumicino Airport. We would like to find an out of the way place to stay and explore between Montalcino and Rome along the SS2. We are considering Bracciano, but it looks a little closed down that time of year. Any suggestions?

We stayed at Lago Bracciano last Sept. The town is a busy, not too interesting outer suburb town of Romeother than a impressive castle where I think Tom Cruise was married. Very easy drive to airport. We also left from Montalcino, had lunch on Lago Bolsena and then stayed at Hotel Villa Clementina. Check it out on trip advisor. A little expensive but very very nice. Wonderful gentleman who runs it.
