We are arriving at the Milan Linate airport at 5:00 on a Friday (from the US). We are headed to Modena to see the Ferrari museum on Saturday. My husband does not want to drive all the way to Modena Friday night. I am looking for hotel reccomendations that are close to the Linate airport and dinner reccomendations please. Thank you! Also should we go ahead and pick up a car Friday night or wait until Saturday morning?
If he will be jet-lagged, I think he is very wise not to drive.
My suggestion is to take a bus to Milano Centrale train station and then a train to Modena, renting a car in the morning. I'm seeing trips taking less than 3 hours. For instance:
2 hr 14 min
7:00 PM - 9:14 PM
7:00 PM from Milano Linate Airport Bus Stop
7:25 PM Milano Centrale
Walk
0.3 mi (8 minutes)
7:50 PM Milano Centrale
FR 8829 towards Ancona
9:14 PM Modena
You could even take a taxi to and from the museum, about 1/2 an hour each way. Rent the car later.
Any particular reason you are looking at renting a car? It seems much easier to take the train to Modena. If it was my trip I'd stay somewhere in Milan the first night and then take the morning train mentioned above to Modena.
Sorry, should have included that we will be traveling on to Siena for 5 days. That is why we need a car. And then we are dropping the car off at La Spieza.
