Driving from Florence to vineyard Varramista

Has anyone been to Varramista before? How hard is it to drive from Florence to Varramista? Also, how close are the car rental places from the train station in Florence? Thanks!

Autoeurope has offices in Florence and at the Florence airport. Please note two things. Most car rental places are closed on Sundays and most are only open from 8:00am - 12:00pm on Saturdays. Second, and very important, there are certain areas in Florence (some main streets, certain neighborhoods and the historic areas) where you must have a permit to drive. If you don't have the permit, computerized cameras will pick you up and months later, you will receive a collection notice for a ticket or tickets. Most are over 100Euro.

Therefore, you must be assured from your rental company that if they are in or near these special zones, you have the permit to get in and out. If they don't, go the airport to rent the car.

Also, are you aware that you can take the train from Florence to the Pontedera station and catch a brief shuttle to the villa and winery? It's a 48-min train journey. If this interests you, CLICK HERE for a sample train schedule. Instructions for train travel are on the Varramista website.
