Driving From Fiumicino to Sorrento

Arriving at Rome's Fiumicino airport on May 23. Headed directly for four days in Sorrento. Then back to Rome for five days. Already asked earlier about trains and ferries from Rome to Sorrento. What about renting a car for one-way drive from the airport to Sorrento? Easy drive? How long to drive? Which side of the road do Italians drive on? Any suggestions on reputable car rental agencies?

Linda, I have made the trip from Rome to Sorrento several times. I have taken the bus, but the times are not convenient. I have taken the train from the airport, to Termini, to Naples, and on to Sorrento. However, the absolute best was last June when three of us hired a driver. We were met as we exited baggage claim, and the driver took all of our luggage to a comfortable air conditioned Mercedes. He drove us to our door in Sorrento. The cost was 300 Euros, which was fine divided three ways. When we figured the cost of all the trains and the loss of time, this made sense. In fact, we were planning to take the bus back to Rome, but instead went with the driver again.
The company was Tour of Italy, locally owned in Sorrento by GianCarlo and Giovanni Gargiulo. You can find them online. I cannot exactly recall the length of the trip, but I believe it was 3 to 3 1/2 hours. I can check. I do know this was the best price we found. Most companies wanted 400 Euros.
Good luck and enjoy my favorite place in Italy!
