Hi,
Looking for your highlights along the way for a family with 3 older teens.
Thanks!
For overnights or just to break up a trip?
Gaeta has been added to my list.
Near Capalbio, there is an interesting art installation called the Tarot Garden, if that's your kind of thing.
At Saturnia, there are natural hot springs. Pitigliano is a nearby interesting town, lots of Etruscan "vie cave" in the area, a great site at Sovana.
Near Orbetello, there is a lagoon with flamingos.
Near Piombino, Populonia/Baratti is an archaeological site I enjoyed.
We used the Autostrada the whole way( in reverse). Are you considering taking more local roads?
I threw some stuff out there just to get the ball rolling (and I am more familiar with the coastal route). We do need to know your destination, as it may make more sense to go the inland route.
If you are making pit stops, I must advise that anything left in the car is at risk (even locked trunk), so plan accordingly.
Yes considering autostrada, no overnight, considering Saturnia. Aware of possible car situations. Even curious about the best little lunch spot.
Our lodging isn’t fully finalized but thinking Val d´Orcia area.
Departing out of Florence airport and will spend a night or two in the center (been there before, as well as Umbria).
I would not think there would be time for more than one stop, plus lunch.
Just FYI, some find the smell of the water at Saturnia off-putting, but there are places for changing. I only soaked my feet, as it was very crowded, but once they dried, the odor from the sulfur dissipated.
Wow-never heard that before about the baths! Thanks.
