We hope to depart Florence by 10:30 am, expecting the driving portion to be 4-5 hours with an hour+ for a lunch stop. Using Via Michelin for our routing. South on A1/E35 from Florence to the turn off at Orte towards Terni on E45/SS675. At Terni we will go south on SS79bis to Borgorose.
If all goes well with this plan, we will be in the area of Terni at lunch time (which I consider closer to 1pm). Any ideas/suggestions on any part of this route for a nice lunch-even just a great sandwich? The Michelin suggestions are too fancy for this drive!
Also, if there is something along this route that is a must see, we need to know. That applies to the remainder of the drive too which takes us from Borgorose south on SS578 to Arezzo and then east on A25 towards Sulmona. We are in Sulmona for a full 8 days so will have time for the area around there.
We are two, so not herding cats.
For sandwiches, have you tried the Auto Grill
Rest stops? There’s one by Montepulciano and another at Orte.
Edit this might be a nice stop for a picnic on the way.

Yes on the Cascata della Marmore. Have read about them and marked to visit so thank you for the reminder. Will check again to be sure it’s a reasonable off/on when in Terni area.
Understand Autogrill could be just fine. Grab a couple of sandwiches, beverages and go picnic (just not on stairs, bridges or historic anything!). Not a bad idea. Thanks.
Certainly easy off/on. Now to be able to coordinate a visit with times of water release and figure out the best parking area for viewing.
