Help! Just got to Italy yesterday and for some reason google maps won't work for driving directions- just mass transit, etc. I saved lots of locations and downloaded offline maps before leaving the states- and we're going to be driving in the Dolomites. It worked fine at home on our way to the airport. Any tips or other map services we can use, or should we rent a gps with our car? I'd hate to be driving and not have directions!

Waze is very popular in Europe.
Maybe try logging out of your google account and logging back in? Make sure you have the app set up to use cellular data.
Your car will probably come with a navigation system. If not, your phone’s data plan is probably a similar price to renting gps, so you might as well use data.

Do you have a data plan? If you do, Waze should work fine - if you get the settings right. I couldn't use it with data because I didn't have the right settings in the app. I did use google maps and the Garmin GPS I brought from home. Both worked but not infrequently gave me conflicting directions.
