which route are you taking?
As Jim mentioned, Siena and its surroundings have plenty of choices if you take that route. Orvieto is also along the way from Siena.

If you have been to those already and want to explore the coastal route, I would suggest the Mt. Argentario peninsula (Porto Santo Stefano?) and also Capalbio and/or Saturnia, slightly more on the interior.

Roberto read my mind: Porto Santo Stefano is delightful! Great promenade for the evening passeggiata and a day trip to Isola di Giglio is fun. You can hike up to Giglio Castello where you can have a fine lunch as a reward for the hike.

From the coastal route, Pitigliano is a gem for photographers and history lovers. It's in a fantastic setting, has an fascinating Jewish historical neighborhood, and there are astonishing Etruscan sacred roads nearby for hiking. Grosseto is also a nice little city to visit for a few hours or an easy overnight stay.
