We are taking a ferry from Palermo to Naples and arrive in Naples at 6 am on a Sunday. We need to get to Minori. What do people recommend. We were going to rent a car, but the rental place is not open until 9AM. Should we try and find someone to drive us to our hotel in Minori? Should we take the train and bus to Minori? And then find a driver to take us sightseeing. We are on the Amalfi Coast for 3 days and want to go to Pompeii and Positano - which was why we were renting a car. All thoughts/advice welcome.
It is difficult to find a car rental open on Sunday in Italy other than at an airport. The only one that I could find open on Sunday in Salerno was Sixt. Minori is quite a long distance from Naples. It might be to your advantage to take the train from Naples to Salerno and then hire a driver to take you from there. Minori is much closer to Salerno. I rented a car and stayed in Amalfi. We went to Positano, but it is very difficult to find a place to park there. There is only the one road that winds through town, but we managed to find a pay parking lot. I think it cost 20 Euro to park there. If you are up to the task of driving the Amalfi road, go for it. However, you won't get much sightseeing done as your eyes will be glued to the road with the steering wheel swinging wildly left and then right then left again as you maneuver the twisty road. Rentals are quite expensive, so it might be to your advantage to hire a driver to take you to Positano and then on to Pompeii for the day. It takes at least 4 hours to do justice to Pompeii.
