Driver tips

We have arranged a ride from FCO to Rome ( Trestevere). Will our driver expect a tip and if so, what would be an appropriate amount for 2 passengers?

The driver will not expect a tip but it is welcomed. 2 euro coin if helping lift bags

Generally when tipping on stuff like that, you are not expected to tip the traditional 15-20% as in the US. Generally we suggest rounding up on your bill. I don't think you need to give more than 5-10 euros depending on how you liked their service.

Very little tipping..5 or 10 Euros is WAY too much for that ride. Round up, the 2 euro tip for handling the bags ( which they charge you extra for transporting luggage by the way) is fine for this type of ride. They try to sometimes squeeze tips out of Americans because they know it is OUR CUSTOM...but their system pays a living wage...in restaurants the VAT tax covers the " tip" again a few small coins for a coffee & dessert in a cafe, 50 cents at most, for sit down meal service between 25-75 Euros I would round up with about 4 Euro tip....if it is a high end restaurant you will tip 15-20 Euros for a 400 Euro and up meal..this is what I do in Italy, and France regularly...watch what the Italians do...they don't tip..just a 20 cent coin on the counter for an esspresso is mostly what you will see! If you add up all the American style tipping people do on their trips they could stay in that better class hotel or add two more days to their trip...don't waste your money and don't feel guilty. When in Rome....

The VAT is a tax similar to the sales tax that has nothing to do with paying for tips. That money ends up in the Italian State's coffers.

Tips are not an Italian custom, so get used to giving none, or at most no more than rounding up to the closest multiple of 5€. So if it's 48€ just give 50€ and refuse the change, and that is already 2€ more that I would leave.
