Driver recommendation -- day trip from Orvieto

For a free afternoon and evening, interested in hiring a car/driver to take us from Orvieto to Civita di Bagnoregio. (I know busses are available.) Any contact info?

nancy,

I don't know of any private car services in that area. Unless you want to take the Bus, your only option may be to use a Taxi.

Nancy, I was in a similar situation when I visited Orvieto last October. I was there on a Sunday when no buses ran from Orvieto to Civita di Bagnoregio, and wanted to make the visit. Well before I ever arrived, I asked the hotel where I had a reservation, Hotel Virgilio right by the Duomo, if they could arrange a car and driver to take me. They said they could, and right at the scheduled time when I arrived, someone who worked at the hotel was there to drive me. His name was Alessandro. He is not a guide, and may not even work as a driver, but his car was comfortable, he drove just fine, certainly knew the area, and was friendly and he knew a little English. We had agreed in advance that I would pay him 80 Euros for the drive and two-hour stop at Civita. A little expensive but the only way I could squeeze in a visit to this unique hill town that RS calls his favorite. We planned that he would park and then walk over the pedestrian bridge and around Civita with me, but we were surprised to find the area with many tourists on a Sunday afternoon, mostly Italian it seemed, and there were no parking spaces in the lot near the bridge. So, he had to drop me off and then return and pick me up. Worked out fine.

By the way, I really enjoyed the Hotel Virgilio, small but modern rooms, my room looked over the front corner of the magnificent Duomo, great breakfast (Alessandro was involved in serving it), nice people, and good prices.

If you want to pursue either a room or Alessandro as driver, you can contact Ilaria at [email protected].

I too am working out a day trip to Civita. Rick's 2014 book mentions Giuliotaxi --similar arrangement as above: drive to Civita with a 2-hour stay. I can't seem to pull up the website. Anyone have experience with Giulio?
