Driver needed from Florence to FCO

I’m trying to help a friend who was with a group but is now by herself after testing positive for Covid. She is in Florence and once she is negative she needs a driver to assist her with her luggage and get her to FCO. She doesn’t feel she can manage the train. Anybody have a solid recommendation I can pass on to her? Travel has been a savior to her after her husband died five years ago. It’s a rotten situation but especially difficult wen you are alone.

Is she open to trying the train? I only asked because I just priced the trip on my day trip and it was over 450 euros.

That is a high price. She ruled out the train because her friends that were able to leave told her there were stairs at the train station and and her suitcase is too heavy for her to carry. That would sure be the easiest but it's just not doable. Thank you though!

Thanks all for your input. I'm sending these on to my friend. One problem she is having is the car services need 48 hours notice and she's not sure when she'll test negative. Appreciate your input and help!

There shouldn’t be stairs to worry about at SMNovella or Termini
At least that is what I recall
Even if almost all stations have a lift

She could train to Termini then go outside and grab a taxi to FCO
flat rate 50 Euros

ChristineH is correct, both stations are terminus stations where you don't need to navigate stairs.

I just wanted to add that although I wouldn't suggest making a practice of this in ordinary circumstances, I am willing to bet that many kind Italians would see a senior woman struggling with her luggage and offer to help if it is a problem.

Yes, I agree. They have always been very kind.

Is there the possibility of her taking the direct train, Firenze SMN- Fiumicino Airport?

Train @ 11:48-14:07 2H19m. Stay at the airport Hilton and fly the following day. Just seems less stressful.

My wife and I have used mydaytrip.com about 25 times with good success. We will again use the service for a current Italy trip.

Although we have not yet had experience with the company in Italy, their service in Central and Eastern Europe was very good, We also used their service in Spain three years ago and results there were mixed.. one driver was very late and another drove by our paid-for interim stop. The central office later refunded that trip cost.

Suggest checking with them whether they would be willing to a last minute booking.I’ve found the company flexible.

Good luck.

Excellent advice Gerri
I know about the FCO to Florence train, just wasn’t thinking in reverse!

Isn't there a stair to enter Florence SM Novella through the main door? I'm sure there are none at Termini and FCO stations.
I wonder if friends were warning about the 3 steps to get on trains.

SMN station has stairs on the side of via Alamanni and around the taxi ramp (but nobody walks there). On the side of piazza Adua there are no stairs. And of course, there are three steps to access trains.

I don’t know the rules in Italy, but isn’t it inadvisable for a (possibly infectious) Covid-positive person to use public transportation? I don’t mean to argue; I’m sincerely wondering. Best of luck to your friend.

I understand your point and it's a valid one. She will not leave until she has no symptoms (which she already doesn't) and tests negative. I believe that meets Italy's requirements.
