driver from Ravenna to Siena

We will conclude our cruise in Ravenna and want to see Seina after. Due to medical issues taking the train is not an option. Can any one recommend a reliable car service? I have tried to find some on the web but the vary wildly in price and I can't fine recommendations for many. I don't want to get stuck with no driver. Thanks for your help!

What kind of medical issues and are you really sure the train is not an option? It's about 250 km and over 3 hours by car, so paying someone to drive you will not be cheap.

thanks so much. No, it is not possible for me to take the train. I know it will cost a lot but it is what it is. Life!!

Hi Cathy -
Not wishing to pry here but could you give us just a little more information?

Are you needing a driver just from Ravenna to Siena and not for Siena itself? Just curious how you will be getting around when you get there?

Are you thinking to visit Siena as a day trip, meaning you need the driver to return you to Ravenna on the same day?

If not, where are you off to after Siena, and your transport plan?

I'm only asking as having a more complete grasp of your itinerary may help people to best assist you. :O)

I have a traumatic brain injury that makes it very difficult for me to be in areas that are very busy/chaotic with lots of noise and movement. Hence, a train station is out of the question let alone 3 stations to get me from Ravenna to Seina.

I plan to spend 2 nights in Siena and then have a car drive me and my husband , who has Parkinsons, to Florence to fly out.

I am named after St. Catherine of Siena and it has been a life time dream to go there. It is very unlikely I will every return to Europe so I want to do this while I have a chance.

Hmmm. I just tried a test booking too and got the same result as Cathy did. Wonder if there's a glitch in the works.

Cathy, thanks for the additional information. Hopefully some others will chime in here with some alternate references. We can poke around past forum postings too. Yes, it will be an expensive trip but you already know that so getting you to Siena one way or another is the goal here. What month/day are you needing this driver for?

I wonder what's going on. I did a "custom booking" and gave them my name and email - no problem for me since I've used them in recent years.

Cathy - With the diagnosis, you just shared, and the situations you need to avoid, I can’t help but be concerned about your visit to Siena, which is generally very crowded.
But, I understand about life long dreams and I hope you can manage to make this happen.

In 2022, we booked a "transfer tour" with Tuscan Escapes from Siena to FCO. We eventually had to cancel the Tuscan portion of our trip, but Tuscan Escapes was very easy to work with, and gracious when we canceled. You could check with them.

In fact if you contact any travel agency is able to hire a car with driver for you.
Or you can try to look for "NCC Ravenna" (or "NCC Siena"). NCC = Car with Driver in Italian and are the official regular cars authorized to transport passengers and tourists wherever you want. Are called even "blue cars" in Italy. You can contract a simple transfer, but even do one or more stops along the way to visit something else.
If you find a driver from Siena could be possible even arrange all other transfers in thee area. Now a lot of NCC are using electrical cars (Mercedes or BMW), so the travel is even more quite and silent.
That one is the first I found on google: https://www.sartinisiena.com/en/hire-with-driver/

thanks for your concern and offers for help. Its been nearly 5 years since my accident so I have learned what I can and cannot do. I will make Siena work for me but I know I cannot do the train stations.

I need the transfer in the morning of June 15, 2024.

I wonder if the issue with booking on mydaytrip is due to location? I won't let me do any. I am in Florida. Maybe you have to be in Europe for it to work?

Month of year (for crowding estimate?) We were in Siena the first week of July, 2016, and it was very crowded. We could not see the interior of the Cathedral because we had not pre-booked at least by that morning. On the plus side, many of the streets were essentially pedestrian, which makes you feel more "free" than when trapped on a sidewalk, despite heavy tourism.

It would not be the "lowest price" available, but I have used my full-service hotels sometimes for a referral to a local black-car service, for same-day round trips. I figure their "land partner" has a huge incentive to do well for hotel guests.

I do think that you are going to find such a long, empty-return trip (where gas alone is $8 per gallon) to be prohibitively expensive. I mainly say that so that you can begin to think of other possible options. I have no idea about Siena, but I have been on one or two first-class Italian trains, like Milan-Venice and Rome-Naples, and except for the time the air conditioning didn't work, they were calm and pleasant. But Italy's train system is not as polished as places like Germany.

I know many cruises will let you order every meal in your room if you prefer, but having been on ten under-350 passenger ocean cruises, I did not find them less "busy" than an average train trip, especially the daily excursion departures. (I know my experience is not particularly relevant for another person with a specific concern.)

The OP is concerned about the chaos inside of a train station which is a valid concern. The trains themselves are not the issue.
As for Siena, it doesn’t matter really what month you go. I have been there three times - the last time was February 2023 and it was extremely crowded, as usual.

Hello Cathy. I do not have a recommendation for a car hire from Ravenna but, for comparison purposes, we have used a car service to transfer from Florence to Siena. It was arranged by our property manager and cost 150 euros (175 euros if using a credit card). I have read the comments about how crowded Siena is and that can be true, particularly during the day when the tour groups are visiting. But there are many places that are not crowded, and The Casa Santuario di St. Caterina is one of them. We have been there often and find it very beautiful and peaceful. It is open from 9 am to 6 pm; so, in the late afternoon you might find yourself with only a few other visitors. Another beautiful and uncrowded location is the Bacilica dei Servi. The many times I have been there I have often been the only person in the church. Many other churches, in the 17 contrade, if open, will not have many visitors. I hope you will be able to find transportation to the beautiful and magical city of Siena.

I used FindTransfers.com, a UK company, last September to book several private trainers in Italy for my family of 8. You enter your date and trip, and they contact local companies for bids. You may get one, or several bids, and most of the companies that bid have websites you can check for credentials and maybe reviews. I was very pleased with the service, and how easy it was to set up.
