Are there recommended driver companies in Italy?
Going North to South over 2-3 weeks and would ideally use the same company if possible.
Thank you!
Hi Canoco -
Your question is really too broad for a good answer, More exactly, where will you be going, and how many of you are there? As well, are you intending to use nothing but drivers to get around for the entire trip? That would very, very expensive, and not even particularly efficient depending on where you're intending to go: rail can be a better choice depending on time and distance.
As well, are you wanting drivers strictly for place-to-place transfers or for guided tours as well? They aren't usually licensed for the latter; you're likely to need a driver + a guide in that case.
All that said, you might look at DayTrip (also known as MyDaytrip.Com)

This company has seen good reviews from posters who've used them throughout Europe.
Thank you for your response RS Team.
We are still shaping what cities we are going - some will be accessible by train, some not. We are following Rick's guide per his Italy book.
I was thinking of just transport - place -to- place transfers as I believe you call them. No guided tour.
Did not want to rent a car as that almost ruined our trip in Ireland last year.
6 of us would be going.
That being said, it is starting to feel like take trains to big cities and hire a driver to get to a remote city - like Cinque Terre for example or Lake Como.
As we would be travelling from Milan-Lake Como-Venice-Cinque Terre-Florence-Orvieto/Civita-Naples-Sorrento-Capri-Amalfi Coast-Rome; I was trying to see if there was one company we could consistently use in the different regions where a train ride was not possible.
Looks like you recommended Day Trip - I will check them out per your suggestion. I assume they can cover all of Italy?
Thanks again for your help.
Hello Canoco, and welcome to the Forum!
Just to be clear there is no RS team - this is a public forum for people who love to travel can swap ideas, advice and experiences. No one here is working for anyone - we're just enthusiastic (over) sharers.
With the exception of the Amalfi Coast and Civita all the regions you list are easily - and probably best - visited by train.
Milan-Lake Como-Venice-Cinque Terre-Florence-Orvieto/Civita-Naples-Sorrento-Capri-Amalfi Coast-Rome
If this is the order you are proposing I would check the order of Cinque Terre and Venice in this schedule. Venice and CT are essentially on the opposite coasts of Italy at nearly it's widest point. I would estimate at least 8+ hours door to door making this transition. I would suggest Milan, Como, CT, Florence, Venice as more organized order that minimizes travel time as much as you can.
I would also point out that you have at least 11 major locations listed on you itinerary and even 3 weeks probably isn't enough time for you really experience these places. You need 2 nights somewhere to have on full uninterrupted day so 21 days into 11 locations is a lot. You may need to edit the number of places you're going or visiting depending on what you really want to see. Venice, Florence and Rome by themselves can easily fill 11+ days all by themselves and both CT and Amalfi are coastal and pose some logistical challenges to reach. Be sure you are leaving yourself enough time to enjoy the places you are traveling to get to. Do not underestimate the amount of time and trouble it can be to get 6 people packed, checked out of ready to move on.
I realize I may be contradicting RS on some of this advice but unless you're sure everyone in your group is up for a blitz tour of Italy I would concentrate on fewer places for longer.
I agree with the previous poster - looking for one company to do all this and track north to south with you is unrealistic. I also think that is impractical since 6 with luggage would probably mean a van or something else specialized to carry you around. Train travel is the easiest, and often fastest and cheapest way to get around. I encourage you to embrace it as part of the Italian experience.
Hope that helps some, have a great trip,

Tod,
As I mentioned my cities are not decided, was just looking for driving advice.
Order not set either, just getting into it.
I have travelled extensively and now how to pace a trip.
Thanks for your extra advice.
You will have to rent a van in each location (in Italian is called a noleggio con conducente, NCC, hiring cars with drivers); it would be easier to deal with a single company but I never heard about such a thing.
And you need a van as usually cars are designed for 5 persons including the driver, some cars are designed for 6 (even if you cant seat them you never get enough space for large bags), for 7 persons including the driver you need a van.
As Hiredman said, there is no "RS Team" on the forums; just people who love to travel and trade advice/experiences. As well, I have no personal experience with DayTrip/Mydaytrip, just seen some positive feedback go by in some of the threads. It's very unusual for posters to ask about countrywide driver services with a single company; most are looking for shorter hops or airport transfers regionally, and recommendations lean heavily to local services. You might ask about one of those for Orvieto>Civita di Bagnoregio, if you keep it on the list.
I'll also agree that practically all of the locations you list are best served by train, even the Cinque Terre. While you mentioned that your order isn't set yet. I would echo the advice not to do Venice> Cinque Terre. It would be a haul any way you shake it, and a very expensive one by driver; dummy booking on daytrip came up with an estimate of €1,096 for 6 adults Venice>Monterosso for a random date.
Hope this trip isn't in the plans for this year's high season?
The order make sense: Milan-Lake Como-Venice-Cinque Terre-Florence-Orvieto/Civita-Naples-Sorrento-Capri-Amalfi Coast-Rome
Much easier move from Milan/Como to Venice than to Cinque Terre. There is a mountain chain in the middle and cross it twice make you lose a lot of time. And Venice - Orvieto means pass again through Florence.
Told that, car with drivers are called in Italy "NCC" (Noleggio Con Conducente). Are usually organized at Province level and the most are free lance. So you don't find a national level company of drivers. You can find resellers (like Uber black) or OLTA and tour operators who work as intermediate to find local drivers. The most cost-effective way is do personal research of private driver, but a research for each city.
