Hi! We start our Italy vacation in Venice and then getting a car and driving to Florence. Are there any places we should visit on the way? Can anyone please suggest an itinerary? Thank you!
You don't mention how long you have.
Some options to consider ...
Venice
Padova - side trip to Vicenza
Ferrara - side trip Ravenna
Bologna - side trip to Parma & Modena
Florence
Thank you! We have 1 day to travel from Venice to Florence. We'll leave Venice early morning and drive to Florence, but we want to stop by interesting places on the way.
All the above mentioned cities and towns have a camera controlled ZTL area where tourists can't drive in.
In Florence bus lanes are camera controlled, too.
All the above mentioned cities are easily reachable by fast frequent cheap trains which go right to the centre of each city. Trains don't get speeding tickets nor camera tickets for ZTLs or bus lanes, nor do they have to pay tolls nor obtain mandatory IDPs.
For something special: have a stop in Sabbioneta. A small, purpose-built Renaissance town, halfway between Mantua (Mantova) and Parma.
Take the super fast and cheap bullet train from city center Venice to city center Florence. A rental car will be your enemy traveling between these 2 cities.
