Now that our April 2021 trip has been cancelled, I am starting to plan for 2022. We will be driving from Calabria to Matera. Looking for a stop about half way for lunch and stroll. Any suggestions?

I would be inclined to pack a picnic lunch and stop whenever/where ever it looked suitable or interesting

The first half of your trip, from Reggio to the Sibari plain, will be on the A2 freeway (aka as E45 in the EU designation) and there will be several Autogrill restaurants at the various rest areas (Area di Servizio) along the route. I would stop in one of those. Decent food and not expensive. I wish we had those types of fully equipped rest areas along our freeways in California. Otherwise just north of the Sibari plain, the flat valley where you exit the freeway to take the Ionic State Highway, there is the town of Roseto Capo Spulico which has nice beaches and a pretty coastline all the way to Montegiordano.
