Drive from Paestum to Lecce

Hello. We will be driving from Paestum to Lecce in early October. Can anyone recommend the best route to take for this drive? Google Maps has three alternative routes. Also, any recommendations on a place to stop for lunch would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

We drove from Lecce to Pisciotta (on the Cilento coast, just north of Palinuro). Pisciotta is just about an hour and a quarter south of Paestum. We lunched in Matera and briefly visited sassi and St Nicola while we were there.

Because Pisciotta was over on the coast via slow roads, Paestum is actually a shorter drive, just 2-1/2 to 3 hours per Google maps. So, Matera could work as a lunch stop quite easily and you’d have more time there than we had.

It was probably 2-1/2 or 3 hours driving from Lecce to Matera, in part because we got a little lost on the outskirts of Lecce. Then probably close to 4 hours from Matera to Pisciotta. That left us 3 to 3-1/2 hours for lunch and a bit of sightseeing in Matera.

Like Miuccia, we also noted that there were about three driving options from Matera to the Cilento coast. We took the southernmost of three options. Going through Potenza might have been a little shorter, but I thought the route we took might be more scenic, not that I really knew.
