Hello, we will be driving from Milan to Montepulciano with 2 small kids in early July. I have read that the drive takes about 5 hours without stops, so we are planning to stop for a good lunch break along the way. Can anyone recommend somewhere around Bologna/Modena/Parma (or elsewhere?), not too far from the autostrada, that would be nice for a mid-day break, ideally with some space for the kids to run around and a family-friendly restaurant? We are travelling on a Saturday. Many thanks!
Erika, I don't recall the name of the restaurant (other posters will be more helpful, I'm sure), but just off the autostrada at Modena we had a great meal several years ago. Look for trucks in the parking lot - the drivers know where to eat! The two-year-old we were traveling with was a great source of amusement and object of hospitality with everyone in the restaurant - very family-friendly. Modena/Parma/Bologna all are famous for great food.
