Dress code for an opera in Rome, open air concerts

Would love to see an Opera while we're visiting, especially the Freddy Mercury Opera Show. Can anyone tell me how I should dress for this?

Also, I see "Open Air" concerts advertised (Open Air Opera Aperitif At Terrazza Borromini), (Great Symphonies at Piazza Navona), but with a seat charge. Could I potentially walk by and catch a portion of the show, or is it roped off?

Thank you!

Hi Edith, I usually have a dress and 1-2 pairs of black pants with me on a trip. Either one works with a pretty scarf or nicer inexpensive statement piece of jewelry for feeling like I am blending in with the others for nicer events or dinner. I am in my 60’s, so that may influence my answer. ; )

The symphony at Piazza Navona is inside a building located on Piazza Navona.

Dress anyway you want. Opt for comfort.

IMHO dress codes disappeared the moment jeans became fashionable. Fine by me.

Usually a dress code is considered for gala evenings at the main opera house in Rome, but a performance mixing Freddy Mercury and baroque music looks more geared to foreign tourists than to a Roman audience; I would not care at all about dress code.

I would think that a Freddy Mercury tribute calls for distressed jeans and a graphic tee featuring Queen. Preferably black.
