Hi, I had a long week at work this week so I'm already dreaming of my summer vacation in Italy!! Question--I know many of the beaches are private, and that you can rent chairs and an umbrella, but I've never seen a reference to prices (even in Rick Steves' books). What should I expect to pay?
A friend, just tonight, told me that they were asked to pay 5 Euro to sit in one of the chairs at the private beach. I think that was per chair. Also, this was in Monterosso. There is plenty of public beach in Monterosso as well.
Lisa: Which beaches are you thinking of?
Not Italy, but in Greece, it was typical that a chair was a euro or two, umbrella extra. Seems like for two chairs and an umbrella it was typically 5 Euros. The term "private" can be misleading, most beachfront is public, but access to the beach can be restricted. many places we just set up on the sand rather than renting a chair, take your cue from others.
We'd have to know what beaches you are heading to! Many hotels in different areas have private beaches. Many private beaches have public streteches between them.
There are more public beaches on the Adriatic side.
Thanks for the info posted thus far. Our itinerary is still a little sketchy, but probably Monterosso del Mar or Sorrento. Thanks!
Monterosso is really the only beach in the CT. It's very nice. They do have places to rent the chairs and umbrellas. However, I don't think the beach is private and you can lay out on a blanket if you desire.
