Downloaded maps of Italy for TomTom GPS

We have a TomTom GPS that we are going to bring to Italy with us in October. We are renting a car for most of the time. Has anyone used the downloaded maps of Italy for the TomTom? It's $39.00. I know it is definitly worth spending the money, just want to know if anyone has had experience with it? Thanks.

Brigette, I just updated my TOMTOM before our trip to Italy/Sardinia this past June. But instead of paying the 39.99 for just Italy I got ALL of Europe for $119. We go to Europe each year, and I thought it would be cheaper for us to do it all at one time, and then rely on it for a few years. Besides, we usually do more than one country at a time. By that time I will be ready for a new GPS with "unlimited" updates. Check it out on the TT web site, and if you have ANY questions ( I did) call them. BTW, make sure that you bring or buy a good Michelin map. We don't do any trip without taking both. Forr Itlay/Sardinia we made good use of our Michelin road Atlas, but a good "gas station" Michelin road map will be almost as good.

I echo Steve's opinion. Although we have a Garmin,we, too, downloaded all of Europe for around $100. The GPS was extremely helpful and got us on the correct route when we got lost. Like Steve, I also highly encourage you to purchase a Michelin map. The map was essential for seeing the big picture. I encourage you to pre-program your GPS for your routes as this will save a lot of time. The GPS might want to take you on different routes than are sensible. The map will confirm these routes and also allow you to establish new "way points." We did this a lot. I also suggest taking hard copies of the maps of the little towns you expect to visit. They will help you more easily get to the parking areas. Rick's maps were helpful, but sometimes we got turned around and were heading toward town in a different direction than Rick recommended. If you OVER prepare for your driving, your experience will be more relaxing and less stressful.
