Doubt visa and ETIAS for Italy

Hi' I'm Crys from Uruguay.

I'm making plans to move to Italy for a Master’s degree, probably in the second half of 2022. But I came up with this information of a new travel authorization (ETIAS) (https://www.etiasitaly.com/etias-application/), which is supposed to come live precisely in 2022. I'm making all the inquiries to get the Schengen visa for my studies, but I'm not sure if, aside from the visa, I will need also this ETIAS to travel Europe.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

that looks much more like a commercial site than a government site.

There has been discussion here before, search on the ETIAS.

It is coming but at an uncertain date in the future. It will cost a small amount of money and a little bit of paperwork. Don't allow commercial sites to make money out of you doing something simple that you can do yourself - when it is needed.

Until it eventually comes in there is nothing to worry about. It has been delayed many times.

Visas, whether resident, student, visitor, or other, supersede tourist entry requirements. You wouldn’t need to follow both—normally.

What others have said. If you require a Visa to visit Italy, or will be seeking a long term Visa for education, that will meet all entry requirements and submitting information for ETIAS will not be needed.

If, and when, the EU/Schengen and member countries do implement EITAS (It has been continuously delayed year after year) then it will be a requirement if you are a Uruguayan passport holder and are just visiting 90 in 180 day Schengen visa waiver limits. However, it is anticipated that the process will just be filling out a form online, provide some documentation, pay a small fee, and done.
