We will be staying at an apartment in Dorsoduro (closest Vaporetto stop Ca Rezzonico or S. Basillo. I've read many suggestions to ask your hotel how to get to Murano but since we are on our own I want have that option. Can anyone tell me how to get to Murano from Dorsoduro? Which Vaporetto? Thanks for your help!

You can research yourself at www.actv.it, where you will find an interactive scheduling tool, and yes, it is available in English. From the Accademia stop, take the number 1, and transfer at S. Zaccaria Jolanda to the number 5. There are other options, too, such as leaving from the Zattere.

Rick Steves' book has a suggested self-guided tour of the islands. You might want to have that along. I think he says start at Colonna, but don't have the reference handy. You depart from Faro with Rick's walk.
