I purchased 3 tickets thru Viator for 9/30 yesterday. Received “confirmed voucher “ to be exchanged for tickets. Received email from Rome Tours this AM saying will contact via email or WhatsApp “if they find tickets” Anybody have experience with this? Both seem to be reputable sellers but this makes me very uncomfortable. Paper work after purchase says I must be flexible, hard to do with just 3 days and other committed times.
I won't go as far as to call it a "scam" but 3rd parties aren't always able to land tickets to high-demand attractions and/or those which are able to accommodate a limited amount of visitors. That may be the case here: they don't know if they can actually get tickets, or get tickets for the time booked. It's possible they're also covering the possibility of an unexpected shut-down of the attraction.
Always best to book directly with an attraction's official ticketing site, which in this case is coopculture:
As you might remember, I am also struggling with ticket purchase for Domus Aurea. My visit date theoretically comes up for sale on Wednesday of this week - 30 days out. Based on the constant sold-out status for most time slots on the official site, I did go ahead and “purchase” tickets on Tickitaly. They gave me a similar confirmation - they’re holding my payment info and will be trying to get tickets on Wednesday.
I’ll report back on how I fare.
