I have a choice on Trenitalia of bus only - or bus and regional train. Any reasons to take one over the other? Prefer not changing so happy to pay few extra dollars for ‘bus only’ but wondering if traffic will be a problem closer to the city center- in that case the bus/ train might be wiser.

The bus only is faster as it is nonstop and direct. The bus+train route has stops on both the bus and train sections, plus the change time from bus to train. I would not over think it.

There should be direct trains to Milano centrale from Domodossola every couple hours. Take the regional trains, not worth the extra money for the ECC train to save 5-10 minutes. Not sure what day you are looking at?

Yes unfortunately in early July there is only bus or bus/ regional train possibilities bw Domo. and Milano centrale.
