Hello - I'm planning a trip with my 10 year old daughter to Italy in July. We would like to go to Ortisei for 2 nights from Verona. I'd rather not rent a car. I see the train goes as far as Chiusa Klausen. It appears it is 15-20 minute drive to Ortisei from there. Does anyone know if it's possible to get a taxi without arranging in advance? I'm not sure if there would be taxis at the train station since it seems like a small village. Would it make more sense to get off the train in Bolzano and try to find a taxi from there?
Why not pre-book? Then you do not have to worry about finding a taxi, and you know the price in advance. We used Ivan Morderer for our family last September; he met us at the Bolzano station and took us to our hotel on Alpe di Siusi. Then came back to pick us up for our return to Bolzano. All very safe and reliable.
Amazing! I hadn't found this service. I was using Rome to Rio and they mention the Alto Adige bus, which looks like more of a shuttle. I was concerned we might miss it if there is a delay on the train. I haven't been to Italy in a LONG time, but I remember delays when I traveled by train.
rome2Rio is not the best source of information, unfortunately.
Here is the website to the local Sudtirol bus, which is very reliable. Scroll down to the 170, which goes from Bolzano (bus station is just north of the train station) to the Val Gardena villages, including Ortesei:

You can see the schedule there. (Don’t look at the 170-S, which is the school bus for local school children).
These are large, comfortable “coach” type buses and would be much less expensive than the private taxi, with just the 2 of you. We had 8 people, so the €140 was little more than the cost of the bus.
Thank you!
I don't see that 170 goes to Ortisei (but then reading bus schedules is a challenge sometimes). How about 350 or 351?
Greg, From Bolzano Bus Station you do want the 350 to the Val Gardena. Download the Südtirol app for easier planning https://www.suedtirolmobil.info/en/contact-us/suedtirolmobil-app. Note you have to be stop-specific so for “downtown Ortisei,” for example, select Ortisei Piazza San Antonio.
I apologize; I was incomplete when I mentioned the 170. You have to change to the 172 at Castelrotto if you go that way. The 350 that Laurel mentions is a much better option.
