Our group is traveling here in September and I have been searching and searching for private tour guides for Hiking as well as private transport and keep coming up empty. Most places just offer full service to include accommodations. Can anyone recommend providers for one or both of these?
Can you clarify what kind of private transport you are seeking? To and from the Dolomites (where in the Dolomites), to and from trailheads, or other? And what does NCC mean? Also, how large is your group?
We did 10 wonderful days of guided hiking in the Dolomites last September on a tour that included lodging, meals, and transport, but it sounds like that is not what you seek. I recall one hotel where we stayed, in Dobbiaco, offered guided hikes on some days, but only for guests. I believe one place we are staying next September does that as well. But I don’t think that is what you are asking for either. Some of the tourist information centers of the towns offer guided hiking, but it is open to anyone, not private. But perhaps you could contact the TI in whatever town you will stay and ask about private guides.
Many of the properties in the Val Gardena region participate in the Val Gardina Active! program and offer a free pass to their visitors during their stay. Here is a clip from the website of the property we've booked in Ortisei:
For all our guests the participation at the weekly Val Gardina Active!
programme is free of charge. Lovers of sports, culture and good
cuisine will enjoy the programme offered by Val Gardena Active,
including guided walks, Nordic walking courses, guided mountain bike
tours, climbing courses, sunrise hikes, yoga … and much more!
Check with your innkeepers or the property website to see if it is included.
Thank you both for the reply. When we were last in Italy, we had a driver/Sprinter who took us where we needed to go - we are looking for the same for our group of 6 adults. We are staying in Val Gardena area and to start, need transport from Venice to the accommodations there. Then, rather than spending time trying to make it from point A to B each day for hikes, we'd prefer to have someone pick us up a few of the days to do a driving tour and some small hikes to be able to cover the most area in the 3 days there. On the final day, we need transport to Bellagio but on the way, would like to stop in Verona to spend a few hours there.
You might contact Taxi Ivan http://www.taxi-ivan.com/eng/taxi_groedental.htm. We use Ivan every year to get to-and-from Bolzano as well as to transfer up to the Alpe di Siusi for a few nights up there. He has a network of driving associates, too. His website says he does day trips, so worth checking. Communications in English no problem, although he puts up with my Italian.
You might also hook up with the Catores Guides https://www.catores.com/en/. We see them with small groups on many of our hikes there.
