Dolomites (Ortisei) - Hiking Seceda on Opening Day May 2026?

I am planning my family's first Europe trip for May 2026, starting in Munich, then to Neuschwanstein, Dolomites, Florence and Rome. We have two teens and one pre-teen. Our tentative plan has us in Ortisei on May 21-23, and opening day for the lifts to Seceda is our one hiking day, May 22 (https://www.seceda.it/en/summer#preise).

Are the lift opening days subject to change due to the weather? I know there is no way to predict the weather beforehand, but generally speaking, are we likely in for disappointing/unpleasant hiking this early in the season?

We wanted to do something more in nature before heading to the museum/historical-site-heavy portion of our trip in Florence and Rome. We will have a car and have not booked lodging in Ortisei. All suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

It certainly is possible the lift could not open due to bad weather, but typically this time of year it should be pleasant. However, at the higher altitude, there still could be a lot of snow on the trails, depending on how much snow they had this winter (or continue to get). There really is no way to predict this, so just take a chance and hopefully it will work out. You could always hiked at lower altitude to avoid the snow if it is an issue. It will be beautiful either way. Plus, you'll have less tourists on the trail this time of year. Seceda is extremely popular!
