Dolomites & Lake Garda

Can someone please share their itinerary or input for 5-6 days between Dolomites & Lake Garda? I'm traveling with my husband (we are 28) & love the outdoors, wandering around, foodies. Thank you!

We will be in Tuscany for a wedding oct 9 -13 & plan on traveling after that.

We are flying from Miami & returning back there after the Dolomites / Lake Garda.

Where are you coming from, and where are you going after? What time of year? What do you like to do?

hey hey aniello.autumn
where exactly are you staying for the wedding? what city (airport) are you flying into and what city (airport) are you flying home from?
like many other travelers want to see more than you really have time, staying a day or 2 in places is just not enough. check-in times 3-4pm and check-out times 10-11am. gives you half evening then check out next day. you want to be in the city of departure night before, make sure the airline departure times (some may be early early mornings)
if you are renting a car, all drivers will need an IDP (aaa.com/IDP), read up about laws, rules, signage, ZTL zones, parking, speeds to not get a $$$ ticket, cost of fuel and if cash or card payment driving times will take longer than you think what he says on driving maps. when do you plan to pick up car? i recommend not driving far after a long flight, not knowing where you going to the new area, check picking up car in one place and returning to another place. you don't want to be back tracking which adds time and costs.
where ever you stay, make sure you have a parking spot, an issue in many cities with a parking garage in a different area that you walk with luggage on cobblestones/uneven pavement, two lanes winding roads at times, could be slow with traffic, if stopping where do you put your luggage for safety reasons. when and where to return car, hopefully night before flight home
make a map of your plans/route of what is really advisable with travel times. october is a busy month with harvesting of wine & olive oil, festivals/fairs happening. lots of things to think about before arriving but if you are all prepared with your notes you'll have a great time. keep asking questions, the volunteers on this forum are here to give you advice, best way for this and that, good bad and ugly. your decision what floats your boat. good luck

It takes about 2 1/2 hours from Firenze to Verona Puerto Nuova station and trains run about every 2 hours.

From Verona you can catch a local bus or a train to Lake Garda to the west.

For the Dolomites you go north from Verona to Bolzano and can catch a bus to Kastelrotto, Ortisei, etc from the bus station which is 50 yards north of the train station. It takes about an hour by bus from Bolzano to Ortisei.

This is the South Tirol official website with lots of information.

In the time you have available spending more than a day in travel to get there and back for your flight seems a waste, so pick either L:arke Garda or the western Dolomites. There is great hiking in both places. Have fun!
Check Out Gillian Price's many hiking guides to the Dolomites too.

Hello! We did a similar path a few years ago, although I don't think I would copy my exact itinerary. We traveled from Venice to the Dolomites and stayed in Fiera di Primiero. Our kids were young and there were some easy hikes in the area with rifugios at the top, but that town was so incredibly small the restaurant options were limited. I would pick a larger town in your shoes (Ortisei? Merano?). All the scenery is stunning, so I don't think you can go wrong.

We had a rental car and then drove to Riva del Garda, which was also stunningly beautiful. We drove from there to Brescia and every town we passed on the west side of Lake Garda looked incredible. Again, I don't think you can go wrong. Two nights in Riva del Garda was plenty for us.

I would look at logistics and see what towns make sense and if there are places to stay that suit you and go from there (are you renting a car, relying on trains etc).
