Dolomites in winter for non skiers

Will be in Dolomites for 5 days next month just prior to Olympic opening ceremonies. Already have lodging in Ortesei. Looking for activities (besides finding all the best food!) while adult children are skiing. Any winter hiking or chair lifts / cable cars to lookout spots etc.? Most posts refer to all the spring and summer time hikes.
Much appreciate any info!

Hi Mary. Yes, there is hiking and other activities! Here https://www.valgardena.it/en/winter-holidays-dolomites/val-gardena-active/ you’ll see events and activities sponsored by Val Gardena Active. Here is the general hiking info https://www.valgardena.it/en/winter-holidays-dolomites/activity-holiday/winter-hiking-trails/#=5110&=5110&=5110,5120,5123,5125,5122&filter=r-fullyTranslatedLangus-,r-openState- and here is a map showing trails maintained in winter https://dolomites-val-gardena-inverno.digimap.virtualalps.info/en.

I highly recommend the easy path at Rasciesa, out to the rifugio for a snack or lunch makes a good short outing. I am also fond of going up to Mont Sëuc for the roundtrip on trails 6 and 6B with a stop at Sanon for coffee and strudel.

The Alpe di Siusi, which is the large, fairly flat area that spreads out from
the top of the cable car that Laurel has referenced coming out of Ortisei,
has many paths and inns for both hikers/walkers and skiers.

You can also take the Seceda cable cars in the opposite direction for views.

I am not sure of the bus plan, but you may want to figure it out to go to other
towns like Selva and get great views of the Sella Ronda.

Grazie, Laurel and Shoeflyer! Very helpful. The website info looks especially helpful. I will be checking out all of them!

Hi Mary - Here's a good list of things to do in the winter that does not involve skiing: https://throneandvine.com/dolomites-winter/. In addition to wandering Alpe di Siusi, if you have a car, I'd recommend visiting Lago di Braies and Prato Piazza. They are near each other and can be visited in the same day. Lago di Braies is great to visit in the winter especially if the lake is not fully frozen over. Prato Piazza is easy to hike and offer some increadible views of the eastern Dolomites. Be sure to pack crampons for your boots or buy them while in Ortisei. Have a wonderful trip!
