How seasonal are the towns? Are many hotels and restaurants closed ? We are considering staying in Trento for 3 nights, after Lake Como and before Tuscany.
We investigated going in mid-October this year and found we were too late for full enjoyment. As an indicator, most of the lifts were closed by Oct. 13. This website can help on dates: https://www.valgardena.it/en/summer-holidays-dolomites/lifts/
Trento is a major city and is not seasonal, nor is Bolzano which might be a better base for visiting the more dramatic Dolomite areas.
The Dolomites are best in the area between Val Garden and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
The second Monday of October, Ortisei, Val Gardena, has a town wide market. Food, music, wine and beer tents, crafts, everything imaginable. The Mont Seuc cable car in Ortisei goes to the spectacular Alpe di Siusi/ Seiser Alm and runs into early November. We’ve been early to late October. Love it there. The Lagazuoi cable car not far runs until late October. Driving the passes, open year round, is spectacular. Gardena, Sella, Pordoi, Falzarego, Campalongo, Giau Passes are all in the immediate area. Like a kid in a candy store!
