Dolomites in late Sept?

My husband and I will be in Italy for the last 10 days of our month long trip in September. We will spend some time in Venice and then are considering renting a car to travel to the Dolomites for some hiking in Val Gardena and Val Badia. I see that the temps are in the 50s F at that time of year but I'm worried more about fog and rain. No sense going somewhere crazy scenic when you can't actually enjoy the views. Can anyone comment on the typical weather for that region at the end of September?
Thanks!

I sure hope it is nice because we will be there for a week at the end of September! But I did check some sources before committing to the time and while of course one cannot predict the weather, it seems in the past they have often had very nice weather at that time, although of course it is cooler than mid-summer. We have been rained out of a particular hike from Val Badia at the end of August two times now. Both times I checked the weather after we got home and it had turned nice again. But I didn't watch all the way to the end of the month. We will take our rain gear and be ready for anything (hey, we live in Seattle), but it would be nice to have those beautiful views.

Been there at the end of Sept, early Oct more than once. As dry as the Sahara each time. Although in the early morning it was a little nippy. Of course past history is no guarantee of future performance, therefore I can't assure you it will be the same this year (and neither can the Weather service). I recommend to check the forecast about 7 to 10 days prior to the time you'll be there. Forecast tends to be accurate within a week.

Hi Teri, I'd say late Sept. to early/mid October is an ideal time to visit the Dolomites. We've been a few times in October and once in late Sept. I don't remember a day of rain at all during our trips. A passing shower once or twice, but otherwise terrific fall weather. More than once daytime temps were in the 70's. Have a great time. Paul
