My husband and I love to hike and have heard the Dolomites are great. However our trip time will be May 20 into early June. Will this be too early to hike? We don't want to get there and be disappointed that lifts and trails are closed. Has anyone gone at that time to help us decide? Also which trails would you recommend if this is a good time.
We were there beginning the 3rd week of May in 2007. The lifts were not open and I don't think they open until sometime in June. We did not hike but we did see some hikers although the Refugios would not open until June and that would probably be the latter part of June. The good thing is that the traffic is light since it is the off season for hiking and skiing and even though many hotels are closed there are enough places open to find a place to stay. Also, the rates are better during that time. The Dolomites offer some beautiful views. You may want to check the trip advisor forums and ask for specific hiking trails or areas that may be of interest to you.
