Dolomites in late March

Hi all! My family is heading to Italy in March and we are looking for some new adventures. We’ve already been to Rome, Venice, Florence and are considering branching out with some time in the Dolomites. Our vacation is scheduled around busy schedules and so late March is when we can go.

We are an active family and enjoy physical activity, though we are not skiers. Knowing that it can still be quite cold and snow may still be on the ground, is it worth venturing into the Dolomite area?

We don’t care about getting cold and will have proper winter attire but don’t want to go if activities are too limited in late March.

If we go, we are looking at Ortisei for a 4 night stay with a potential side trip to Bolzano. We want to hike in and around Seceda as well but know that is probably not possible due to weather.

Late March is still skiing season in Ortisei, and that's a good thing! I'd even try to aim as close to mid-March as possible - but anytime up to the end of the month is good; things start to wind down in April.
That way, you will have a lively scene, all mountain restaurants will be open, and there are plenty of groomed (not plowed) paths that will let you do beautiful snowy walks from place to place, plus many lifts that are open for pedestrians. You will be able to go up to Seceda & Alpe di Siusi, no prob.
Tobogganing will also be an option.
