Dolomites in late April

We will be disembarking from a cruise in Trieste in late April. I've read that many hiking trails will be be closed, and some, maybe many, hotels will also be closed. But if we aren't skiers, and aren't looking for lots of hiking, would taking a day or two to see the Dolomites be worth the time? Or would we just find ourselves dealing with cold, wet weather and nothing open to see? We've been to Venice and don't particularly want to stay there, but we had to leave the Dolomites off when we were in that area a few years ago. But would this just be the wrong time to go there?

Thanks,
Harry

The major towns, such as Cortina and Ortisei, should be at least somewhat open,
but on top of the other concerns you mentioned, I would suspect that some or all
of the lifts you would use to get into the mountains may be closed, as this is starting
to get into mud/maintenance season.

If you can get up to the Alpe de Siusi and find a place to stay, you'd have scenery
and paths for walking (think fairly level paths and not strenuous hiking).

Slovenia would be a great option as well.
