Dolomites in early May??

We returned from the BO (!!) and north Italy last month. So amazing!
Now we’re dreaming of returning to Italy in late spring of 2024. We haven’t been to the Amalfi Coast yet. I’m thinking go there first in late April. Then head to the Dolomites, which we’ve never seen but really want to. We won’t have a car (hopefully we won’t need one??). Is early May too early for the Dolomites? Will it be too cold? Should we push the trip out a few weeks? Don’t want to deal with summer crowds…
(Thanks for all of your fantastic advice when I planned our last trip. That was priceless!!)

I’m no super expert, but I visited the Amalfi coast in mid May a few years ago it it was fun but chilly and rainy.

In this forum I inquired about a town in the Dolomites in May and was told the lifts may not be open.
In a response to hikers asking about the Dolomites in late April, they were similarly discouraged.

Perhaps more expert travelers will provide you with a more detailed response :)

Late May would be much better for the Dolomites. Some lifts will be running then, but not all.

Our trip to the Dolomites was in early June a few years ago. Even then, one of the lifts we would like to have taken had not yet opened for the season. We had pretty good weather (a little rain), but I decided that when I return it will be in early July.
