My husband and I are travelling to the Dolomites in mid August. We are avid hikers, yet not overly wealthy. We are wanting to stay in a agriturismo and wonder if anyone has any recommendations? As well as recommendations for what town to stay in for a central location for a week.
The farms in the Dolomites differ from those found in Tuscany. I suggest picking a city in the area you desire and go and check Booking.com filtering from low to high prices looking for B&Bs. The area has some wonderful accommodations that look like properties you will find in Bavaria, Switzerland or the Austrian Alps.
Ortisei seems to be one of the liveliest of the Dolomite villages; there's no shortage of lodgings and restaurants there. If you want a quieter spot, Ortisei might not be the right choice for you. I didn't stay up in the Dolomites, so I have no specific suggestions to offer.
We never have a car so I have not had a chance to stay in a Red Rooster Farm in the Val Gardena, but we did stay in one in Moso one time when we had a car and thought it a lovely experience.
Any town in the Val Gardena -- or nearby -- will serve you well for a week, but Merano is also good, and the Alta Badia is favored by some on this Forum.
have a look about farm accomodation on www.seiseralm.it website or send them your requested. plenty of 'maso' accomodation there.
