Dolomites in 3 days?

Hello, I am traveling to Italy for the first time and first time as a solo traveler. My goal is to see much as I can as a "recon" and visit again with my family at another time. My trip is 12 total nights and I could use some feedback on my 2 nights road trip to Dolomites. I realize it's a lot for 3 days, but looking for some feedbacks and suggestions.

Day 1:
- Land in Rome, take the train to Venice
- Spend the night in Venice

Day 2:
- rent a car at Mestre station
- drive to Ortisei
- spend the night

Day 3:
- Seceda
- Alpi Di Siusi
- drive to Cortina d'Ampezzo
- spend the night

Day 4:
- Tre Cime
- Drive back to Venice to return rental car
- Take the train to Florence

Is it doable? The reason for going to Ortisei first is to shorten time it takes to backtrack to Venice on day 4. Would you suggest any change?

If it is at all possible for you to arrive in to Venice (or even Milan) instead of Rome, you will make this journey so much easier on yourself. We stayed 4 nights in Bolzano a few years ago to see the sights around the Dolomites and felt like that was too short. You will have 2 nights in the Dolomites and really only 1 full day. You will not have much time to get out on foot to explore the beauty that is the Dolomites, most of your time will be spent in a car. If it were me, I'd rearrange my schedule to have at least 2 full days (and 3 nights) in the Dolomites; I'd pick one place to stay (instead of moving each night); OR I'd bypass going this trip. Whatever you decide to do, the Dolomites are probably one of my favorite places I've ever visited. Enjoy your whole trip!

keickerman, thanks for the feedback.

Because I am on a business trip in Poland the week before my Italy trip starts, I am limited to land in Rome. I could take a flight to Venice to save maybe a couple of hours. Not sure if that's worth it.

Although I am learning there are a lot to explore including lakes, my primary goal is to trail run the mountains in Dolomite. I could add another night for Dolomites. If I were to do that, would you recommend I stay in west(Ortisei?) or east (Cortina d'Ampezzo?) side of Dolomites? If I were to add a night for Dolomites, I will either need to take a day away from Cinque Terre or Rome part of my trip. Worth it in your opinion?

Not sure if Munich or Innsbruck are possibilities from Poland, but if so consider flying into them to save time. Then rent a car to spend your first night in South Tyrol vs. Venice. You can then drive to Venice after Tre Cime to return the rental car or return it to Bolzano and take the train to Venice or Florence.

As a calendar, it looks to me a bit on the extreme side and working only under the best possible circumstances. Just to name a few possible outcomes, a single bad weather day will force you to forfeit part of your program (there aren't many bad weather days due to climate change but still a possible circumstance). Or if you try to do that in August you will discover that the places are so overrun with tourists that you won't be able to keep your pace - the last time I was in Ortisei in August it took me one hour just to find a parking place (at 4 or 5 euros per hour). If you even try to do Venice to Ortisei on an August weekend, it could take several hours of bumper-to-bumper traffic between Verona and Bolzano.
