We will be vacationing the end of June and would like to hike in the east. We want to avoid staying in Cortina due to the construction for the 2026 Olympics. Does anyone have a suggestion on a base town/hotel for 4 nights? We would like a full board and views are a bonus. All suggestions appreciated.
Where precisely do you want to go? Tre Cime?
I stayed in Olang and enjoyed it. There were only Italian tourists. However, Olang may not be in proximity to your destinations.
Thank-you Barkinpark. Yes we would like hike Tre Cime and other hikes in the area.
Olang, Bruneck, and Toblach are good choices.
We stayed in Colfosco at Hotel Sport. It was a wonderful place to base ourselves for hikes all around the area. We had a car, but there's a bus that runs right in front of the hotel.
We did a 10-day small group guided hiking tour in September 2022 with Mountain Hiking Holidays. They used 3 bases for hiking various areas; once of which was Colfosco. I had stayed there before, 20 years ago, and really like the little town. There are some nice hikes right from the town, no bus to the trailhead needed.
But it is a long way from the Tre Cime. For that hike, and another in the area of WW1 tunnels, we stayed in Dobbiaco/Toblach.
Thank you Lola. We will look at that area.
