I am a single woman (in my 50's) and want to hike the Alta Via 1 in the Dolomites. I would like to sign up for a self guided tour but would feel more comfortable not hiking alone. Are there any websites, forums or blogs that give a list of other people in my situation ?

There is a great Facebook page called Girls Love Travel. The main page is populated with 20something chicks backpacking various far-flung places around the globe and complaining about loud snorers in hostel dorm rooms...but they have a section for women ages 35+ (I'm a member) where those of us who are more "mature" hang out. I'm 51 and have connected with quite a few very lovely women who are just as adventuresome in their travel as I am...I bet you could find someone there who would be interested in sharing this hike!
I've hiked in the Dolomites quite a bit and it is extremely safe...the rifugios are well-staffed, comfortable, and you'll meet interesting people who are like-minded...even if you decide to trek alone you won't really be alone. There are lots of friendly people along the way!

You said you have hiked the Alta Via 1 alone? You feel it is safe? Did you do a self guided tour? Because one of them won't even set me up on a self guided tour if I am a solo hiker.

Yes I cant find any tour group that will allow me to go without a partner. HELP anyone know of a company that would?

They will be setting up a self guided tour for me and I will be hiking the ALta Via 1 in August alone.
I am sure I will be meeting lots of people.

To get to the FB GLT 35+ subgroup go up to the lefthand corner of the homepage, click on "Files", and scroll down to "GLT subgroups". The instructions for joining are on that page if you scroll down a little. Good luck!
