Dolomites end of Sept. October ticks and sno

Hello,
We are planning a 5 day trip to the Ortisei area for some hiking. We have not yet figured our where. I have read that tick borne encephaltis is in the area and that they can be present until Novermberl. The vaccine is $1000 in U.S. and we do not have enought time to get all three shots. Wondeing if people have had problems with the ticks. Are there trails that we would be less likely to encounter them. Also, I was reading on the fourm that there could be snow on the roads. We were going to rent a car online and it said snow tires were not necessary. Do you need them at that time? Are we better taking the train/bus from Verona? Will buses have a good scheudle then? Thanks!

Last year there was a freak snowstorm in the Dolomites during mid-September. It was so
unexpected that there actually was a fatality due to exposure.

Many Dolomite hiking trails are above the tree line where you won’t find ticks because vegetation is their habitat. Staying on the hiking trails and out of grasslands should minimize the risk, along with using tick repellant.

I stayed in Ortise the first week in October last year. I did encounter snow and sleet on trails I was on but I didn't see anything sticking to roads and there was no snow in town. It should be cool enough at the end of September so that you can comfortably hike fully covered with long pants and long sleeves which should protect against ticks. I needed multiple layber and was glad I had gloves.
