Dolomites. Do I need hiking boots?

We are planning to hike the Trail of Witches and Panorama to Zallingerhütte and Florian Chairlift from Rick's book.

Has anyone done these hikes and can speak to the unevenness of the trails?
For packing purposes, we'd prefer to use a multipurpose sturdy tennis shoe. But are hiking boots necessary? My wife broke an ankle 3 years ago so is trying to decide between hikers vs tennis shoes with an ankle sleeve.

Thoughts?

I strongly suggest hiking boots because most trails are not paved. I also recommend hiking poles.

I just came back from the Dolomites and can share some tips.

I also suggest hiking boots. I think we did the Panorama and it wasn't difficult, but I recall uneven and rocky parts.

Yes. Definitely hiking boots - you’ll probably be fine with something like a Keen Targhee - but you and/or your wife will appreciate the ankle support on what can be rough trails. The trails won’t do much for your tennis shoes either!

We did the Panorama to Zallingerhutte toute on June 23. My husband wore regular hiking boots, I wore low-cut hiking boots, and our 30yo son wore hiking shoes, all of which are our regular hiking footwear here in New Hampshire. My husband and I also used hiking poles.
