I would really love to rent a car and explore the Dolomites for a few days but in putting together my itinerary, I don't think we will have the time, yet I really would like to visit the Dolomites. Alternatively, I'm considering taking a 9-hr day tour to the Dolomites area from Venice. Has anyone taken an escorted day tour & if so, was it worth it? Do you think I can see enough of the area in one day or should one really spend several days in the area to get something out of it? All opinions welcome.
Several days with a car would be my suggestion if you can change your itinerary. Stunning scenery and you can stop at your leisure where there are pull off spots to soak in the views and take photos. I cannot help with the 9 hour day tour since I have never done it but it seems to me you would only get about half way through the Dolomites before the tour would have to turn around and go back to Venice. If your heart is set on seeing the Dolomites I suppose a short appetizer is better than not going at all but it will only make you want to go back when you have more time and probably disappoint you that you did not allow more time on this trip.
Hi Sheron, I agree with Lane's reply, although I don't know what the tour would encompass. Do you have one in mind and if so, what is the itinerary? Paul
