Dolomites - Castelrotto

I'm thinking of using Castelrotto as a homebase for a couple days of hiking in June. Can anyone recommend an economical and friendly B&B for my family?

OK, good to know. I was hoping to find something around $100 a night.

In general Dolomites is not a budget locale. What range are you thinking? Also reserve early for summer it is a busy place.

Hi Michele, Just wanted to say that Castelrotto is not "in" the Dolomites, yet on the outskirts. I'd suggest staying in the Val Gardena area, not far from Castelrotto but the Dolomites are right there. www.val-gardena.com We stayed at and can recommend the Garni Ariston in St. Christina, Val Gardena. www.garniariston.com The Val Gardena is easy to get around by car or by public transportation. You shouldn't have much trouble finding a rooom under $100 a night. The 3 villages/towns (Ortisei, St. Christina, Selva) that make up the Val Gardena are just 5 minutes from one to the next, so any should be fine as a base. The Mont Seuc cable car in Ortisei goes up to the beautiful Seiser Alm/Alpe di Siusi and opens in late May. www.alpedisiusi-seiseralm.com/index.html Paul

Tirler Hof has apartments for 65 to 100 euros a night, depending on number of persons. This may be a weekly price, I couldn't tell from the website. Contact them to ask. B &B generally runs around 40 pp/pd so that would be more.

Great place! Our family stayed at Haus Trocker B&B. We had two second storey rooms connected by a balcony and share bathroom / shower facilities. Kids loved having their own room. The decor is a little dated, but its very clean and reasonable. Frau Trocker is friendly but speaks little English, but her son Roland is fluent. Covered parking is available. Breakfast is tasty. Find it at Fostlweg 6 - Tel 0471-707-087. I think we paid around 85 Euros a night for both rooms. We did a couple of day trips and hikes. Check it out on youtube. Just type in Frametofame and find Castelrotto & the Best of the Dolomites. Andy

Thanks! I'm going with Garni Lantschner - has very reasonable rates. Loved the video of Castelrotto and Dolomite area - so beautiful!!
