Can anyone tell me where this is? I am also looking for a spot where a set of mountains is reflected in a lake (I can't find the link right now). I am a painter going to the Dolomites in the first week of June as the final week of my photographic journey through northern Italy to gather images from which to paint. I am having the most difficulty planning this part! Some of my difficulty is in locating the photo spots, and finding closest accommodations for the shortest amount of traveling in the dark before dawn or after sunset. If you have photographed the Dolomites area, especially in the dawn or dusk hours, please offer your advice! Rick Steves talks about hiking a little bit from hut to hut but i have been unable to find availability - and again don't know which ones are near outstanding photo locations. thanks for your help!
In order to find the location, one possibility would be to contact the photographer who shot some of the images in the link you posted as these also appear on his website. If you're painting the images for personal use, you could also purchase a copy of the print from his website (the prices seem reasonable).
I suspect the location is somewhere in the area of http://www.suedtirolerland.it/it/natura-e-paesaggio/parchi-naturali/parco-naturale-puezodle.html
Good luck!
Click the link that follows and you will see photos of the Dolomites. All photos have been mapped by the photographers so you can easily find where to go to see such features.

I believe this is the Puez-Odle gruppe of peaks on the northern side of the Val Gardena. To get that view you need to be in a very specific part of the area...I wish I could be more specific.
As a painter you are going to be in heaven in the Dolomites. Everywhere you look are staggering views that don't quite even seem real!
This page will help you with finding a refugio. In order to get the best prices and easier reservations it helps to join the Club Alpino Italiano. When we have stayed in refugios in Italy it has helped a great deal. You will enjoy staying in these beautiful huts...the food is fantastic. Do your homework though...many of them will rent you linens but others require you to bring your own if they are very high up and don't have access to water for laundry.
I hope this helps!
Try Puez-Odle Nature Park between Val Gardena and Alta Badia, viewed from the Seceda.
Thank you for the info! I am checking out all of the links now... i'm a little bit geographically challenged (lol). Any recommendations for where to stay to photograph this area? That is my next task - to book a place to stay. I will have a rental car. Also, Has anyone hiked the area of Siror?
In looking at the Google map, Seceda is at the other end of a valley from the marker for Paco Naturale Puez Odle. ? am I looking at the right "Seceda" on the map? Please forgive my ignorance. I'm a bit confused trying to choose where to plan to stay for this part of my trip that I am planning and executing alone... a little nervous too... but excited about the adventure of it. I am leaving from Venice June 3 and don't fly out until the 9th so I have a few days to explore then return to get some shots if I can find the right area to start from.
If you start in Ortesei and take the Furnes-Seceda lift to the top, this is the view you get. Unless you get cloudy weather like I had, but it's still a phenomenal place to be. Check Google maps to confirm. The views from the other side of Ortesei, taking the lift up to the Alpe di Siusi, are pretty great too. This site: http://www.valgardena.it/en/hiking-biking/walking-trekking/lifts/ gives you some info on the hours and costs of the different lifts in the area if you want to save energy for going from hut to hut. Enjoy the trip! It's a beautiful area.
Not sure where the specific image was taken but the Dolomites are full of spectacular hikes. For trip planning, get a copy of Gillian Price's hiking guides for the Dolomites from Cicierone Press and the #05 Val Gardena-Alpe di Siusi 1:25,000 map from Tabacco.

We usually stay in Selva because we like many of the hikes from that location. But from any of the villages in Val Gardena , Selva, Ortisei, or S. Christina you can easily hop on a bus that will take you to the lifts in any of the other villages in just a few minutes. The Val Gardena Card pass gives you access to the buses and most of the lifts without the need to purchase individual tickets.
One hike I would specifically recommend is from Selva to Refugio Puez. This can be done as a long day hike, or as an overnight at Puez. Along the way there is small mountain lake and beautiful views back down into the Vallelunga valley . More details about this and other routes can be found in Gillian Price's guides. You will have wonderful time.
Thank you for the info!! I at last have gained some ground in understanding where I want to go! I found the reservations for the Puez hut but it does not open until JUne 20 and I will be there June 3-9. It seems to be the sane with several of the other huts I have looked for. Has anyone been in this area during the 1st week of June? Is this a bad idea to go there at this time? It seems that the snow SHOULD be gone by then and I should be able to hike, but am I just being ignorant?
I have found, from years of hiking in the alps, that the snow can remain in the mountains well into July and sometimes later depending on the year. The Dolomites are lower in elevation than some of the other places but snow can still be a factor. Even if it's gone then it takes a while for the ground to dry out and the mud to go away! Most refugios stay closed well into June because of this reason.
You may even have issues with the lifts/gondolas not being in operation yet to get up to the places you are wanting to see and paint. You should check these as well. I have hiked without gondolas before, climbing up into the mountains instead, and I will say that unless you are in extremely good shape, it isn't easy. Not fun either...did it once and that was enough for me.
Back to the original question, I was hoping the image metadata would contain geo-location info but it doesn't. It does have an email address: Creator: [email protected]
