we are planning a trip for Sept 2013 we want to spend a few days in the Dolomites return to Venice and Lake Como then onto Paris. Thinking of 3 days in the Dolomites would like to stay in one place any ideas of places to stay.
Cortina D'Ampezzo has easiest access from Venice, beautiful mountain scenery, lots of hotels which might have good prices being "shoulder" season. There are some buses to other towns (assume you have no car). Other towns I like are Corvara in the Val Badia, or Selva or Santa Christina or Ortisei in the Val Gardena. Kind of depends on your interests: hiking?
Hi Stephanie, Our favorite area in the Dolomites is the Alta Badia. We stayed in La Villa, Alta Badia twice (10/06 and 9/09), both times at the Ciasa Montanara. www.montanara.it http://www.worldisround.com/articles/355539/index.html http://www.worldisround.com/articles/324504/index.html Paul
We stayed at the Hotel Santner in 2011 for two nights and I would stay there again in a heartbeat. It's located in the middle of the Alpe di Siusi and has fantastic views in every direction!
Had a wonderful visit in Ortisei this summer. You can read about it here. Highly recommend Hotel Garni Walter. We had no car, using only trains, busses, lifts and feet. Be sure to buy a Val Gardena pass. It will save you $$ and €€ on transportation.
