I am considering traveling to Northern Italy in the middle of October. The Dolomites are something I want to see. Will the cable cars be open this time of year for non-skiiers? Also, what are the chances of good enough weather to actually have good visibility when there?
For Val Gardena, you can view the lift closing dates here. It looks like a number of lifts stay open until October 12 with many others closing earlier and one (Alpe di Siusi gondolo) open until Nov. 2. I was in Ortisei the first week in October last year. At that time, there were more than enough lifts operating to keep me busy for 3 days although some were already closed. I did not have great visibility except for the morning I was leaving. Even without seeing the peaks, the light snow in parts was very pretty. I think the more days you are there, the better the chance of one with good visibility.
