1. We will be hiking in the Dolomites and wondered if any of you or have heard of anyone who have had experience leaving a rental car parked at a Rifugio while hiking in the mountains for a couple of days? 2. I am also looking at rental cars and trying to determine the size car I would need. We are 3 adults carrying backpacks instead of suitcases. Do the midsize cars have trunks? Thank U.

Mid size cars may not have a trunk but a cargo area instead. Three adults and three back packs should be fine unless you're talking about the kind of huge backpack you need for say the John Muir Trail when you're going to be hiking not for days but weeks. Your car should be fine. Leave the glove compartment open and the cargo area uncovered. You can leave stuff like a case of water, junk but nothing of value. We love the Dolomites.
