Driving from Lake Garda. Looking to do light “hiking” and experience authenticity of the region (during a very limited stay) to include accommodations and cuisine. Suggestions for lodging? Quaint, old world charm is ideal…with a private bath. Looking to include a lift or two either for hiking or simply scenic enjoyment. Planned dates will be in late September. Many thanks for any suggestions.
Recommend checking lodging in Castelrotto or staying at a hotel higher in elevation in the Compatsch/Alpe di Siusi area. Castelrotto is a cute small town that's easy to access from Lake Garda area, and it's a convenient location to reach hikes in the western part of the Dolomites. We stayed at the Hotel Paradiso in the Alpe di Siusi region years ago, and loved the location for hiking, although it looks like the hotel has changed quite a bit since we last stayed there. Our recent hiking trip, we stayed in an Airbnb apartment in Castelrotto, and loved evening walks around the town, walking in the pastures above the town to watch paragliders, and the convenience of restaurants and grocery stores in town.
If you end up in Ortesei, I enjoyed my stay at Hotel-Garni Fortuna. It is all you describe - a few minutes walk out of the exact city center, while still convenient.
