We are driving from Venice to Fussen, I will use the viamichelin.com guide is this the Dolomite region?
If you want to see the best of the Dolomites you can leave Venice and drive to Cortina d'Ampezzo-Pordoi Pass-Sella Pass on to Bolzano. This is the Great Dolomite road and is a beautiful and worthwhile drive. If you have time take a couple of days and stop on the way, maybe in Canazei and another little town on the way. From Bolzano you can head for the Brenner Pass on to Insbruck to Fussen. If you are in a hurry and don't have time to drive the Great Dolomite road then the quickest way would be to leave Venice and drive to Verona to Insbruck and on to Fussen. You would not see the best of the Dolomites by that route however. If time allows I would drive the Great Dolomite Road. One of my favorite drives in Europe.
We drove South from Innsbruck through the Brenner Pass to Verona then Venice. I was driving with my wife and three kids. When we would have turned off to drive the Dolomites, the vote went against me so we went through Verona. My family generally voted against scenic drives in favor of stops. I really liked Verona but hope to drive the Dolomites the next time through.
Does someone have a link to a map showing the Dolomite darive?
Don't have a link to refer you to but you could go to viamichelin.com and put in a starting point, such as Venice and another point somewhere in the Dolomites. Maybe Cortina, Canazei or Castelrotto. You could then click on the map and enlarge it. It will not define the Great Dolomite Road as such but it will show the road #'s to take. That may be of some help to you. If you get RS Italy book he has a route for the Great Dolomite Road with a small hand made map. Between viamichelin and the RS book you could get an idea of the roads to take.
It would be better if you could find a link with a map that defines the Great Dolomite Road. Maybe a google search would provide one.
